Yet another New Year!

For many of us “resolution” is the word associated with new year, so much so that we tend to neglect the word on all other occasions!
The all-time favorite contenders for the resolution list (R-list) are-

  • Get up early
  • Exercise
  • Appear for some certifications/ exams
  • Improve vocab
  • Make new friends
  • Read “n” new books
  • Learn a new language(s/w or foreign)
  • Give some time to the “close-to-the heart” activity(like music/painting/some sport)
  • Explore nature (trekking/some adventure sports)
  • Give some time to yourself
  • Don’t be surprised if you find the same entries nicely bulleted in your neighbour’s R-list as well, with little or no modifications.

New year-Yup a day to make new resolutions and dump the old ones….yet with each passing year, we follow this tradition of making and breaking resolutions religiously. Then why so much of hype and hoopla about the new year resolutions first place???

Lets revisit!Friends it is not really that bad.

“Each morning is an opening to a new world, new aims, new tryings”.
Rightly said. New year brings this morning and the opportunity to consider the options life has to offer,re-prioritize, set our goals, analyse ourselves. It tells us to pause for a moment and listen to what our heart longs to do. It is the best time to dump the burdens of all the failures, agonies, missed opportunities, lost friendships (dumping the resolutions-list created the year before & creating a fresh one, could be the least!).

It gives us a hope to meet new people, visit new places, learn new things.

Whatever! I love this very concept of R-lists. It is not just that i feel good and motivated looking at the ambitious plans, TODOs, NOT TODOs in the list, but the process of creating one is in itself quite satisfying. Plus it is simple and interesting- no tough questions, it is all about you.
Ya, i agree that this mental spring-cleaning activity can be carried out any time in the year, why just new year?
It could be even your b’day or some other special day, but this day, you don’t have to remember, the whole world reminds you about it:-).

According to me, R-list gives you a chance to CAR-GO!

C- Change what you dont like-within and around you.
A- Accept your mistakes, accept yourself for what you are. Analyse whatever you have done, whatever has happened to you in 1 year, where you had started and where have you reached?
R-get rid of your bad habits, rejuvenate, revive, relax.
GO- Set your GOals and target them. Plan your short term and long-term goals. Learn, improve, enjoy and GO live your dreams.

Isn’t this good enough to give it a try than mocking at the resolution-makers?
Rather than being a critic of every little sweet notion, try it once and see it for yourself.

So, R-list is not just about jotting some points and singing them out this year and going on guilt trips the next year for not having lived upto most of them, but it is a way of giving a tribute to the passing year, with a sincere attempt to treasure the beautiful memories and lessons learnt and a promise to the year knocking at the door to make most of your lives:-)

Wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year!!!

“Here is yet another year smiling radiantly at us, lets smile back!
It is ready to throw new challenges on us- lets face it with zeal and passion to learn new things.
It is calling us with arms wide open, lets embrace it and live every moment of it!”

It is new year, asking you for a fresh R-list. Are you ready with yours?
